Project Mission
This project aims to foster sustainable development on campus, and in the process, educate the Rocky Mountain College community on environmental responsibility and the importance of sustainable practices.
Location
The south facing roof of the Bair Student Center is the location of the solar panels. The Bair Student Center is a focal location on campus, and the the benefits of solar panels are used by the entire student body. Additionally, the roof's 45° angle makes it ideal for maximizing the output of the panels.
Benefits
- Create a sustainable energy supply.
- Lower CO2 emissions.
- Be an active part of the fight against global warming.
- This project is a small part of a larger initiative to create a sustainable movement on campus.
Faculty Quotes
"Renewable energy is something we talk about in a few of my classes. Having solar panels on campus would be a perfect teaching opportunity as well as a perfect example & educational demonstration for the public. With all the controversy about the negative effects of coal & other energy sources, solar energy seems to be the ideal energy for the future, having no downfalls. I think that an educational center is the perfect place to demonstrate such a thing."
- Dr. Tim Lehman, History and Political Science
“Having a PV system on campus would be a strong symbolic message that states 'we care about clean energy awareness and scientific development and we don't just talk about it, we are active participants because we have a PV system on campus'."
